Narrative poems can be about one’s personal experiences or observations and can also be about something one has read. This assignment is one I designed to have students practice writing poetry as they reported on a self-selected book they read during the third quarter one school year, after we had studied lots of poetry structures.
This Narrative Poem Assignment also can be an assessment tool for measuring student comprehension or response to a book the class has studied together.
The poems make fine additions to student poetry notebooks and contribution school literary magazines and on-line galleries.
