Literature: Student Evaluations

Students often have very specific responses to literature and are surprised when peers they know and respect respond differently, even in a polar opposite way. Teaching students to evaluate literature based on the Nine Yardsticks of Value* is one way of preparing them to have civil conversations because the students will have developed a vocabulary to describe reasons how and why literature impacts them in a particular way.
